Perdomo Edicion De Silvio Now in Cameroon, Maduro

Tabacalera Perdomo, S.A. has expanded its Edicion de Silvio ultra-premium cigar brand with new maduro-wrapped and Cameroon-wrapped versions.

Edicion de Silvio Maduro is a blend of all-Cuban seed tobaccos topped with a rare, deeply aged maduro wrapper. Edicion de Silvio Maduro is available in four sizes: Robusto (5 x 54); Double Corona (7 1/2 x 50); No. 2 Torpedo (6 1/2 x 54); and Salomon en Cedro (7 1/2 x 49 x 60). 50 of each size are presented in a slide-top, perforated Spanish cedar cache surrounded by fragrant ribbons of Spanish cedar (except Salomon en Cedro, which is packaged in 24 wax-sealed, aerated cigar ‘vessels’). The wax-sealed cigar cache and Spanish cedar shavings are then concealed under lock and key within a rustic “Spanish Galleon” mahogany tobacco chest.

Edicion de Silvio Cameroon MT sports a rare and extensively aged dark Cameroon ‘Medio Tiempo’ wrapper along with an all-Cuban-seed filler blend. Created by Nick Perdomo, Jr. as a tribute to his late father - cigar maker Nicholas Grovy Perdomo, Sr. - and his uncle - Antonio Keeney Perdomo, Tabacalera Perdomo’s factory manager in Esteli, Nicaragua - the cigar is available in two vitolas, Grovy (6 x 54, $20 MSRP) and Keeney (4 1/2 x 46, $12.50 MSRP). Each cache contains 30 cigars surrounded by cedar ribbons, and also features the elegant Spanish Galleon packaging.

General Tobacco Launches Vaquero Little Cigars, Bronco Fire-Safe Cigarettes

Miami-based General Tobacco, a recent signatory to the MSA, has launched two new products - Vaquero Little Cigars for the U.S. and international markets, and Bronco LIP (Low Ignition Propensity) for the New York market.

The Vaquero brand is the company’s entry into the rapidly growing little cigar market. A competitively priced brand, Vaquero is available in 100s and King Size soft packs in four flavors - Natural, Cherry, Menthol and Vanilla. The company is also planning to debut a five-inch hand-rolled cigar in two variants.

Bronco LIP is a line extension of General Tobacco’s popular Bronco cigarette brand, and has been specifically introduced for the New York market in response to state legislation introduced in 2003 requiring all cigarettes sold in the state to be low-ignition propensity (or “fire-safe.”) The LIP variant is made with the same high-quality tobacco but with special paper that lowers the burn rate and air permeability that helps to lower the ignition propensity of each cigarette. Bronco LIP will be available as a full complementary line to the existing Bronco line of variants.

General Cigar Rolls Out Powerful Bolivar Re-Launch

General Cigar Co., Inc. has undertaken a full-scale re-launch of the legendary Bolivar cigar brand. The result is what General calls the boldest, most full-bodied cigar in the company’s vast portfolio.

The new version of Bolivar was developed with input from the company’s top cigar creators including Benji Menendez, Estelo Padr-n, and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, all under the direction of cigar master and new General Cigar c.e.o. Daniel Nu-ez. The teams’ result is a cigar with a thick Honduran San Agustin Ligero wrapper; a binder of Havano Medio Tiempo (the same Connecticut-grown tobacco that wraps Partagas Black Label); and a filler blend that melds Dominican leaf with Nicaraguan tobacco from Esteli, and from the volcanic island of Ometepe.

Bolivar debuts in four traditional Cuban frontmarks: Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 45), retailing at $5.50 per cigar, or $112.50 for a box of 25; Robusto (5 1/2 x 50), $5.80 per cigar, $46.40 per box of eight cigars in glass tubes;Toro (6 x 52), $5.95 per cigar, $148.75 per box of 25; and Churchill (7 x 49), $6.25 per cigar, $156.25 per 25-count box. Reflecting the brand’s Cuban origin, the cigars are presented in handsome, dark-colored boxes with gold foil treatments. “Bolivar embodies the ‘new General Cigar,’” comments Cooper Gardiner, vice president of marketing for General Cigar. “It is the epitome of what we collectively believe a Bolivar cigar should be.” Bill Chilian, director of marketing for Bolivar, adds, “To do justice to such a classic brand name, we decided to give the brand an ‘extreme makeover.’”

Limited-Edition Partagas Cifuentes Summer Blend Replaces Fall Blend

With the well-received Fall Blend nearly depleted at retail, General Cigar has released its new, one-time-only Partagas Cifuentes Summer Blend, a limited-availability three-cigar collection continuing the ongoing tribute to brand originator Ramon Cifeuntes by General’s cigar masters Daniel Nu-ez and Benji Menendez.

The Partagas Cifuentes Summer Blend has a sun-ripened Honduran San Agustin wrapper, a Connecticut Havana Seed binder, and a filler blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Mexican tobaccos. It is described as medium to full in body, suitable for summer smoking, and offered in three frontmarks: Junio (5 1/2 x 49, suggested retail $5.70 per cigar or $114 per 20-count box); Julio (6 x 54, $6.25 per cigar, $125 per box); and Agosto (4 1/2 x 60 figurado, $5.25 per cigar, $105 per box).
