Quesada's Matasa Celebrates 30 Years of Fonseca Cigars

The Fonseca cigar brand originated in Cuba in 1891, but in 1974, cigar maker Manuel Quesada began manufacturing the brand for the U.S. market at his Matasa factory in the Dominican Republic. Quesada is commemorating the 30th anniversary of this momentous event with a special limited-edition cigar, Matasa 30th Anniversary by Fonseca.

The full-bodied cigar features a Dominican Olor wrapper grown in the Cibao Valley, and a filler blend of Cuban-seed ligero leaf from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Two sizes are offered: Toro Anniversario (6 1/2 x 52, $10.95 retail, $109.50 per 20-count box) and Perfecto (5 3/4 x 43/54/40, $12.95 per cigar, $65 per 10-count box). Orders are currently being taken, and availability is limited.

United Tobacco, a distributor of premium cigars, has launched three in a series of cigar lines that will be featured under its "EO Premium Brands" trademark. Two of the three lines are full-bodied premium cigars manufactured by Rocky Patel at Nestor Plasencia's dedicated Rocky Patel factory in Honduras. Reo, the more full-bodied of the two cigars, is slightly box - pressed and comprises a rich filler blend of aged tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras, topped with a dark, oily Costa Rican Wrapper. Vibe Corojo, while slightly less full-bodied, also includes aged Nicaraguan and Honduran filler but is finished with a Honduran Corojo wrapper. Both brands are packaged in 20-count boxes, and are available in four shapes: Corona (4 1/2 x 44), Robusto (5 x 52), Torpedo (5 1/4 x 54), and Chairman (6 x 58).

The third brand, Bluebanana, is a line of flavored cigars, made exclusively for United by Rosie Perez and the blenders at the Cojimar cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. Bluebanana cigars feature exotic Caribbean-grown flavors and are packaged in boxes of 25 cigars. Available in one size (5 x 44), the cigars's flavors include Banana Daiquiri; Vanilla Orange; Coffee Mocha; Mango Peach; and Tropical Flavors.

Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas New From General

A decade after the successful debut of Partagas 150, General Cigar Co., Inc. is releasing the Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas, its latest super-premium cigar utilizing an exclusive, hand-selected, 10-year-aged Cameroon wrapper.

Recognizing back then that such a wrapper was the key to a standout Partagas limited edition cigar, cigar master and current c.e.o. Daniel Nu-ez began reserving standout leaves - carefully monitoring their maturation - now tapped for the Decadas.

The filler blend of Decadas features proprietary tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and from the remote Nicaraguan island of Ometepe. Binders are Honduran San Agustin leaf. The Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas cigars also undergo a rigorous aging process in rooms crafted exclusively of fragrant Spanish cedar.

The 2005 release of Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas cigars will be unveiled to retailers in late November. Each year will welcome a new Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas collection. This year, four frontmarks will be available: No. I (4 1/2 x 49 petit corona, suggested retail price $14.25 per cigar, or $285 per 20-count box); No. II (5 1/2 x 50 robusto) and No. III (6 1/2 x 43 lonsdale, both $17.95 per cigar, $359 per box); and No. 4 (7 1/2 x 49 Churchill, $19.25 per cigar, $385 per box).
