TOBACCO PRODUCTS & MANUFACTURERS PROMOTIONS

Felipe Gregorio to Launch 1957 Series, Add New Felipe Power Sizes

Felipe Gregorio, Inc. is launching a new cigar line, Felipe Gregorio 1957, as well as additional sizes in its Felipe Power line. Both introductions feature proprietary Costa Rican wrapper tobacco grown from newly-developed genetic Ancestral Cuban-seed stock unavailable elsewhere.

Felipe Gregorio 1957 Series is the company's first box press cigar series, and honor Wynne's birth year. Five shapes are offered: Imperador (6 3/4 x 50), Rex (6 x 55), Majestic (6 x 52 torpedo), Victory (5 x 52), and Coloniales (4 1/2 x 46). The cigars derive their flavor from an aged Piloto Cubano and Condega ligero filler, along with a Havana 92 binder, and a dark Habano wrapper. Presented in boxes of 20, suggested retail ranges from $6 to $10.

In addition, the company is releasing four new figurado shapes to join the original six shapes in the Felipe Power line and celebrate Wynne's fifteenth year as a cigar producer in 2006. Their blend is the same as the previously-introduced Power cigars-triple-fermented Nicaraguan and Piloto Cubano leaf, aged a full 12 years-but also have a proprietary Pelo de Oro wrapper from the same Costa Rican farm. The wrapper leaf, from pre-Embargo Cuban seed stock, is taken from higher primings on the plants. The four new Power shapes will carry a black band to identify them and will be presented in individual mold cavities in 10-count boxes. Suggested retail for each is $15.

Canimao Adds New Jibaros Double Figurados

Mel Gonzalez, president and c.e.o. of Atabey Tobacco, says he spent a whole year working with his master blender trying to find the right materials for his new cigar, Canimao Jibaros, a double figurado. The result was a full-bodied blend featuring an Ecuadorian binder and wrapper surrounding Dominican ligero filler. Jibaros feature a delicate double figurado shape (pointed at both ends) rolled in the traditional Cuban entubado-style to facilitate the placement of ligero and other filler leaves in a finished cigar to deliver proper burn from beginning to end. Canimao Jibaros measure 5 5/8 x 50 and come in paper-lined boxes of 25. Suggested retail price about $6.00 per cigar.

Torano Named Distributor of Dunhill Cigars

Dunhill Cigars of London has named Miami-based Toraņo Cigars as their exclusive U.S. distributor. The Nicaraguan Dunhill Signed Range, which is also produced by Toraņo Cigars at its factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, combines Nicaraguan and Dominican filler with an African Cameroon binder and a Cuban seed, Nicaraguan wrapper. All tobaccos are aged a minimum of three years.

The Dunhill cigar business was founded in London in 1907 and became famous for purveying tobacco to society figures and members of Great Britain's Royal Family. Dunhill Signed Range cigars, in their distinctive Dunhill gray and maroon presentation, have now been reblended and relaunched by Toraņo. There are six shapes in the line, offered in a variety of packaging options. In addition to boxes of 25, Dunhill Signed Range also come tubed in boxed sets of 10 as well as smaller sample packs of three, four, or five cigars. Retailers can also obtain a cigar bin that holds all six shapes in individual compartments. Manufacturer's suggested retail pricing for the Signed Range will be between $7.50 and $14.50.

Adan y Eva Adds New Cigarillos in Tins

Eden's Gate Cigars, the exclusive U.S. distributor of Dominican Republic cigar maker Emelio Reyes and his Flor de los Reyes factory, is presenting Emelio's new Adan y Eva Cigarillo. John Thornton, Eden's Gate's director of sales and marketing said that, "After a year of perfecting the blend, we launched Adan y Eva Cigarillo at the 2007 Tobacco Plus Expo last Spring. We judge its success by the number of attendees who came back for seconds and thirds. Of the three blends we brought to the show, attendees helped select the Havana 2000 wrapper." Despite its compact size, Thornton says the 4 1/2 x 30 cigarillo is a half-hour smoke. "Placed by the register in its Lucite display, the Adan y Eva Cigarillo will make a profitable impulse buy," Thornton adds. Suggested retail pricing for tins of 10 cigarillos is $14.

Additionally, Emilio Reyes is bringing two pre-production Adan y Eva premium flavored cigars to the 2007 RTDA Trade Show: Champagne and Cognac, based on the Adan y Eva 5 x 50 Robust XO.

New Black Pearl Morado features Cameroon Wrapper

La Perla Habana Cigars is introducing the new Black Pearl Morado line as an addition to their Lifestyle Collection which includes gourmet coffees and wines. According to La Perla founder and president Doug Wood, due to the limited supply of the Black Pearl Morado's Cameroon wrapper, the new cigar will be available in limited quantities and only in three sizes: robusto (4 3/4 x 52), toro (6 x 50), and torpedo (6 1/4 x 52). Handmade at the Toraņo family's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, the Morado features a Nicaraguan-Habano binder, Nicaraguan filler, and Cameroon wrapper.

The cigar had originally been envisioned to celebrate La Perla Habana Cigar's 10th anniversary in 2005, but a scarcity of the desired genuine African Cameroon wrapper leaf sidelined the project until sufficient quantities were available, according to Wood.

"Throughout history," notes Wood, "the color purple-morado-has signified royalty. I believe Morado is the finest cigar we've made."

Suggested retail for the Morado is $9 per stick.
