New Port-Infused Decadencia Cigar from Toraņo
Toraņo Cigars is heading into new territory with its new Carlos Toraņo Reserva Decadencia, a premium cigar infused with Decadencia Chocolate Zinfandel port from California's Wilson Creek Winery.
The mild-to-medium bodied cigar, with a complex five-nation blend, is available in Toro (6 x 52) and Churchill (7 x 48). The cigar is encased in a crystal tube, with a cedar half-sleeve, to preserve the flavor and freshness. The striking box presentation consists of freestanding individual cigars housed in a display that resembles a port barrel.
The Toraņos came upon the infusion idea by chance. Carlos Toraņo, father of company president Charlie Toraņo, saw the after-dinner port on a wine list while dining at a restaurant. Intrigued by the Decadencia Chocolate Zinfandel, with its essence of chocolate, and impressed by its unique flavor, Toraņo was compelled to try infusing a cigar with the liquor. The Wilson family, whose family-owned winery created the award-winning port, sent him a bottle to experiment with. Charlie - who had been skeptical of his father's idea - quickly changed his mind after sampling the results, and the Carlos Toraņo Reserva Decadencia was born.
Retail prices had not been announced at press time, and cigars are scheduled to be available in July.

Tatiana Flavored Cigars Add Three New Exotic, Gourmet Offerings
Miami Cigar & Company has introduced Night Cap, Waking Dream, and Groovy Blue - three new connoisseur flavors in their established Tatiana flavored cigar lineup. The trio represent a new direction for the company, according to marketing director Daniel Miranda. "Our Tatiana flavored cigars have been a mainstay with the company since their introduction," he explains. "These selections...are a dramatic departure from familiar flavored cigar choices, offering exotic, complex blends of flavorings."
Night Cap combines vanilla, Marcona almonds, café Arabica, and Criollo cocoa. Waking Dream's flavoring is a combination of vanilla cream, Piedmont hazelnuts, and single malt whiskey. Groovy Blue matches berries soaked in vanilla, laced with acacia honey and a touch of cognac.
The cigars are all handmade, using the same extra-select Dominican tobacco as Miami Cigars' full-sized premium cigars. The company worked for a year to obtain the subtle flavor nuances they sought.
The cigars are available in 4 x 30 size, packed in tins of 10 cigars, at $12.80 suggested retail per tin. Single cigars ($1.28 each, retail) can be sold in a company-provided decorated 25-cigar jar for retailers' countertops. The attention-getting counter-top display, with its polished chrome and clear acrylic, has an ultra-modern look, and reflects the quality of the new tinned cigars.
"The uniqueness of the new flavors, combined with Tatiana's existing reputation for quality and value, should make these strong, profitable sellers," says Miranda.

American Stogies from Indianhead Rolls Out Flavored Varieties in Tins
Indianhead has introduced new flavored versions of its best-selling, value-priced American Stogies premium cigar line. Like the unflavored American Stogies natural cigars, the four new flavored selections are offered in two sizes, presented in 10-count tins.
"In 2004, we began offering American Stogies in European-style clamshell tins, and sales took [a] jump," says Indianhead's president Bill Bock. "With this popularity, it made good sense to offer our new American Stogies flavored cigars in tins."
The 4 1/4 x 40 Petite Corona is now available in Irish Cream and is packaged eight cigars per tin. The 4 1/4 x 30 Ten Little Braves (10 cigars per tin), is offered in Amaretto, Cherry Cream, and Brown Gold, a rum/vanilla combination. Unlike the natural American Stogies, which are available in three wrappers, the flavored cigars have only Connecticut shade wrappers, in a tawny natural shade, and are complemented by naturally sweet Nicaraguan filler.
All American Stogies cigars are handmade, long-filler premium cigars that compete successfully with both premium and non-premium cigars, says Bock.
Indianhead has also introduced a small-footprint acrylic countertop display which holds four styles of either Petite Coronas or Ten Little Braves. Suggested retail price for both new flavored shapes is $11.95 per tin.
