New Victor Sinclair Box Press, Honey Delights
Southern Smoke LLC, the new owner of Victor Sinclair cigars, has added a box-press version to the Victor Sinclair line of cigars. Available in four shapes, the box-pressed cigars feature a Brazilian maduro wrapper and seco and ligero fillers. The medium-bodied cigars are reasonably priced, average $6.00, and packaged in boxes of 20. Also new are Honey Delights, a lilting honey-flavored cigar, and branded tobacconist series bundles. Honey Delights are available in tins of 10, and have filler flavored with just a bit of honey, a Dominican binder, and a Sumatran wrapper. New Packaging for Hoyo De Monterrey
Hoyo de Monterrey has come out with a “New Gold Standard” packaging redesign. Created by Drukkerij Vrijdag, a Netherlands-based designer of cigar packaging, the redesigned band feature’s Hoyo de Monterrey’s traditional crown and crest, however, the new version includes more vibrant gold and dark brown coloring. The circular logo on the outside and inside panels has also be revised and given more detail. Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Makes Debut
U.S. Cigar Sales, Inc. has released the initial shipment of their latest creation, Don Tomas Cameroon Collection. An extension of the well-known Don Tomas label, the Cameroon Collection features a three-year aged genuine sun-grown Cameroon wrapper, highly sought after due to the unique, rich and spicy flavor it provides. A Cuban-seed, Dominican-grown binder and unique blend of long-leaf filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Mexico have all been aged a minimum of four years. The result, according to the manufacturer, is a full-bodied cigar truly worthy of world-class status. The Don Tomas Cameroon Collection features double cigar bands and is packaged in a handsome red label box. A Second, Revised Release of Nick’s Dos Rios Cigars
Nick’s Cigar Company / Tabacalera Perdomo has announced the second release of its Dos Rios cigar line, named in honor of the site where Cuban patriot José Martí drew his last breath fighting for freedom. The new Dos Rios release will be box-pressed and carefully housed in royal mahogany “casks.” Each cask contains 35 cigars. Incorporated into the Dos Rios blend is aged Nicaraguan ligero, a Nicaraguan binder, and a double-fermented Colorado wrapper grown in Ecuador. Six sizes are available: Especial (5 7/8 x 44), Rios Extra (6 x 46), Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 50), Esplendido (7 x 50), and Pyramid (6 x 52). Retail averages $3.95. C.A.O. L’Anniversaire Available in New Sizes
C.A.O. International has introduced a new size, the Toro, to the L’Anniversaire 1968-1998 in both the Cameroon and Maduro series. Along with the Toro, comes a longer Cameroon Petit Belicoso, now measuring 51/4 x 54. The Toro was designed, in the words of company president Cano A. Ozgener, to provide “a little extra oomph” with its gaudy 51/2 x 55 dimensions. “We believe that the larger than normal 55-ring gauge will offer the C.A.O. smoker a mouthful of the rich flavor profile that they have come to expect from both the C.A.O. Bahia’s New Look, Products
Tony Borhani Cigars and the Bahia cigar brand will debut all new packaging, sizes, and products at the San Antonio RTDA trade show. New, vividly lacquered colored boxes will showcase all of the Bahia cigar lines. The Bahia Gold, Gold Maduro, Bahia Trinidad, and Bahia Maduro lines will all receive this new face lift. The recently re-launched Bahia Vintage Epicure Select - available in five sizes from Double Corona to Number Three, a lonsdale - will remain in its current packaging. In addition to a bold new look, all of the Bahia cigar lines will be packaged in a uniform quantity of 20 cigars per box. Bahia will also introduce three new tubo cigars. The Bahia Gold Robusto and Bahia Gold Maduro Robusto in tubes will come in boxes of 10, as will the Bahia Trinidad Number Four - a new size appearing exclusively in tubes. Unlike the box press cigars found in the standard Bahia Trinidad, Bahia Gold, and Gold Maduro Robusto lines, the completely new tube versions will all be round shapes. Also to be unveiled are two new sizes in the Bahia Gold line: the Number Three (6 x 46) and the Number Five (4 x 38). Another new size making its first public appearance will be the Bahia Trinidad Rothschild (4 x 50). The all-new Tony Borhani Ticos, hand-rolled, panetela-sized long filler cigars will also be introduced. The all natural tobacco cigars are offered in tins of ten. Avo Adds Maduros, New Shapes
Avo Uvezian, musician and producer of Avo Domaine Cigars, has added five maduros to his popular line of cigars. The Connecticut wrapper, which has been aged for three years and fermented for three months, surrounds San Vicente and Olor tobacco in the Avo Maduro #2 (6 x 50), Avo Maduro #3 (71/2 x 50), Avo Maduro #9 (43/4 x 48), Avo Maduro Belicoso (6 x 48), and Avo Maduro Piramade (7 x 38/52). Suggested retails runs from $162.50 to $207.50. Also, two new shapes have been added to the flagship Domaine Avo line. The Domaine Avo 40, a Dominican cigar with a Connecticut shade wrapper, is a torpedo measuring (61/2 x 38/52). The Domaine Avo 50, a perfecto, measures 53/4 x 50. Griffins Now In Natural Maduro
After years of research and planning, Davidoff of Geneva has released a new line of maduro cigars as part of its Griffin brand. The maduros have a blend of San Vicente and Olor tobaccos that have been aged between three and four years, and a Connecticut shade wrapper that has been aged for three years and naturally fermented for a minimum three months. Sizes include the Robusto (5 x 50), the Piramide (51/2 x 38/52), and the Toro (61/2 x 50). Suggested retail prices are $170, $181.25, and $193.75, respectively.
